Product Safety for
the Digital World
Internet Safety Labs is committed to driving safer technology by making invisible safety risks visible.
Product safety starts with transparency. Technology products are anything but transparent, especially for everyday users. Moreover, tech harms disproportionately fall on people from marginalized backgrounds who are not well-equipped to fight back, like K-12 students.
Internet Safety Labs (ISL) is the only independent product testing lab that empirically measures privacy and other safety risks in websites and mobile apps. We believe everyone deserves to know a product’s safety risks. Through rigorous safety audits and comprehensive safety labeling, we empower consumers to make informed choices and drive technology companies to build safer products.
Our vision is to create a world where everyone can trust technology, free from safety risks.
By 2029, we will have safety labels for all websites and mobile apps.
Safety Labels
We offer safety labels for over 1700 mobile apps, highlighting privacy risks such as the sharing of your location data with data brokers.
With three levels of details, ISL labels are designed to answer your questions about what an app is really doing, whether you’re a concerned parent or a regulatory enforcer.
Our Impacts
Since 2022 we’ve kept over 265M people safer online
In 2024 we have:
- Kept 16.5M children safer.
- Spurred ongoing privacy investigations with US regulatory agencies.
- Collaborated with Brigham Young University to audit edtech apps for the Utah State Board of Education, identifying discrepancies between observed app behavior and Data Privacy Agreements.
- Supported class action cases in the fight against non-consensual student data mining.
